Daughter of renowned Turkish musician, "Haci" Ahmet Tekbilek, and Lisa Djeylan, pioneer of Belly Dance in Sweden, Sabriye was born into an environment of music and dance. As a child and young adult Sabriye studied many dance forms, including Middle Eastern Dance, Ballet and Flamenco. While attending university she became a member of the Suhaila Dance Company and Bal Anat and began teaching at the Suhaila Salimpour School of Dance. Sabriye was featured in the original run of Sheherezade, as well as in the videos for Bal Anat and Suhaila's Bellydance Fitness Fusion series. Since 2005 Sabriye has lived, toured and performed in the Middle East, and will be teaching in Seattle during one of her rare trips back to the United States. Don't miss this opportunity!

Sabriye will be teaching two workshops:

Saturday, February 2, 2:30 - 5:30. Turkish 9/8 technique and Bal Anat's sassy, folkloric karshlima choreography. Bring finger cymbals!

Sunday, February 3, 11 - 2. Suhaila Salimpour Format. This all-levels workshop will cover conditioning, technique, and drills from the Suhaila Salimpour format, the format that so many of today's superstar dancers and instructors (you know who they are!) credit for their ability to layer and isolate like nobody's business! This technique can be applied to tribal, cabaret, Egyptian, and fusion styles of bellydance. Come learn the real thing, and be prepared to sweat! **Continuing education credits are available for dancers who are certified in the Suhaila Salimpour format.
